What is Music Therapy?

Music therapy is an established clinical health profession that uses the power of musical interaction to support emotional, cognitive, and social wellbeing. Unlike a traditional music lesson, the focus isn't on "getting it right" or being a talented musician. Instead, it is about using sound, rhythm, and melody as a way to express feelings that are often difficult to put into words.

How it's Offered

  • 1-1 Individual Sessions: A deeply personal, private space to work through specific goals, from reducing anxiety to improving communication and self-esteem.
  • Small Groups: A shared creative experience focusing on social connection, mutual support, and the joy of making music together in a safe environment.

Every journey with Kathleen starts with a personalised assessment to identify what matters most to you. Some common goals include:

  • Developing Coping Strategies: Using music and breathing techniques to manage stress and triggers in daily life.
  • Building Self-Esteem: Finding a sense of agency and "voice" through songwriting or improvisation.
  • Improving Social Skills: Practicing turn-taking, listening, and collaboration in a safe group environment.
  • Processing Trauma: Creating a gentle, creative space to explore and release difficult past experiences.
  • Enhancing Quality of Life: Simply rediscovering joy, playfulness, and a sense of self through the power of sound.
